A Scotch Coo

So the big message from the Yoonistas to Scotchland, in June's forth coming Generial Infection is:

"We know better than you, so do as we say and stop talking about being independent because you know you are too wee, too stupid and too small and will fail without Westminster holding your hand."

So far, so normal.

Then there is the "big idea" from Labour that by voting with the Tory Party on almost everything Labour are cunningly opposing their policies unlike the nasty SNP who keep voting against Tory policies and abstained on the "let's have a general election five years early". Apparently this sort of active SNP opposition to the Tory Party is divisive and not good for Britain. Better for Labour supporters to vote for the Tories in Mundell's seat (majority 750) or Tory supporters to vote Labour in Edinburgh South to keep what's his name's nose, you know the wee Labour nyaff, in the Westminster trough. Funnily, it does not seem that either Ruth's Tories or the Dug's Labour give much of a toss about the other lone Yoonist in Shetland as, as yet, there has been no cry and hue to come to Alistair's aid, though maybe that was what Willie Rennie sitting on a lawn mower was about. Maybe Willie was channeling Ruthie's tank fixation with the usual result for the Libdems, a bit of a flop.

So as May's council elections in Scotland looms, what is the message from the Yoonistas?

It appears to be:

"We know better than you, so do as we say and stop talking about being independent because you know you are too wee, too stupid and too small and will fail without Westminster holding your hand."

I do not know about you but I think I have heard this particular message far too many times, already.

The mystic Meg's of Ukanian motile political spherology have been breaking eggs, stirring their tea leaves, sacrificing chickens while dancing naked around a blood daubed image of Margaret Thatcher then decided that Ms May will win a landslide (except for Scotland or Northern Ireland) in Great Britian which will give her all the powers she needs to cut down the first born of the SNP and Sinn Fein, shattering the revolting Celts hopes under the heels of her kitten heeled, leopard skinned shoes.

In any other realm, other than media of the Democratic Ukanian Dictatorship (aka DUD), journalists would be quick to point out the rather large hole in this rather tenuous reading of the political runes. The problem for the UK Parliamentary Union is it can only exist as long as both the original signatories to the Treaty of Union continue to agree to share sovereignty in the UK Parliament at Westminster.

The argument of the 'constitutional experts' is basically the Scottish Parliament is not actually sovereign or that its sovereignty is constrained by the Scotland Act. Fine, that is OK if you go along with the fuges, bodges, misplaced assumptions, precedent and down right lies that are the basis for the UK Parliament's historical claim to exercise the Scottish people's sovereignty.

What if you, like Lord Cooper in his comentary on McCormack (1953), believe the issue of how and who represents the people of Scotland's sovereignty at Westminster is a loose and impermanent mix of what ever the UK Government of the day tries to get away with, as the historical series of fudges since 1707 clearly demonstrate; whether its is Grand Committees or the quasi viceroy position of the Secretary of State for Scotland of Thatcher's time. May's Tory Government has gone one stage further by removing the current dogsbody Secretary of State for Scotland from the cabinet. The sovereign people of Scotland currently have no one representing their sovereignty or considered will within the current UK Government's main decision making process.

This being the case with the elected voice of the sovereign people of Scotland actively ignored at Westminster over such key issues as Brexit, to what extent has the UK Parliament any claim on the people of Scotland's sovereignty, except to ignore it?

If the considered will of the people of Scotland is ignored routinely by Westminster, how can it claim to exercise the people of Scotland's sovereignty?

Under modern Scottish constitutional practice the "considered will" is exercised for the people via the election of MPs and MSPs on behalf of the sovereign Scottish people. While the constitutional experts claim that AXA vs the Scottish Parliament would have had a different outcome if only AXA's highly paid QC's had picked the 'right sub clause in the Scotland Act' rather than the one they chose. The bottom line remains the UK Supreme Court stated in 2010 it had no power to send back or block a legitimate bill of the Scottish Parliament which reflected the 'considered will' of the people of Scotland.

My suggestion is:

"It is time to legally test where the people of Scotland's sovereignty actually lies because clearly it is no longer exercised in accordance with the requirements of the Treaty of Union by the current UK Parliament and Government at Westminster."

The simplest way would be for a bill to be brought forward in the Scottish Parliament seeking to suspend the 1707 Act of Union (Scotland) until such time as the outcome of Brexit negotiations are known or the sovereign Scottish people decide on the 1707 Act's continuation or repeal, as the result of the outcome of a referendumon this issue. In effect this bill, if put into effect, would return full sovereignty to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh for the duration of the Brexit negotiations, forcing May's Tory Party to negotiate with the Scottish Government on the key issues such as Scotland retaining its place within the EEA, as a minimum requirement, if they wanted to keep the UK Parliamentary Union intact. In effect forcing the Tory Government to act upon the "considered will" of the people of Scotland as the Treaty of Union requires them to do, as opposed to, at present, simply ignoring us.

I can see this suspension bill of the Scottish Parliament causing the current presiding officer a serious outbreak of political hives. On the one hand his Labour bosses will be pressurising him on behalf of the Yoonistas, to throw out such a bill as being outside the powers of the Scottish Parliament as it is a "constitutional issue" reserved for the UK Parliament which is sovereign. On the other hand it would raise some serious questions of the legitimacy actions taken by the UK Government regarding Scotland, within the UK Parliamentary Union, merely from the social and mainstream media comment, given 60% of Scots made their considered will known over the issue of remaining in the EU. Even if the Presiding Officer blocks such a suspension bill, the argument over who represents the considered will of the people of Scotland and thus legitimately represents the sovereign people of Scotland, is not going to go away. The lid of the Pandora's Box of 300 plus years of constitutional fudging, bodging, assuming and lying by UK Governments and Parliaments over Scotland will not be easily closed, once opened.

Importantly the "Lord Cooper argument" says the UK Parliament has no powers to renegotiate the terms and conditions of the Treaty of Union and only the sovereign parliaments of the original signatories have these powers. By ignoring the import of the people of Scotland's considered will, by abusing and misrepresenting the sovereignty of the people of Scotland, surely the UK Parliament has taken powers for itself, outside of the legitimate and legal remit set out in the Treaty of Union Article 19, thus the UK Parliament is open to legitimate legal challenge of which the suspension of the 1707 Act of Union (Scotland) is but one legitimate pathway to ensure the UK Parliament and Government takes full cognaissance of the people of Scotland's considered will on Brexit and other issues.

I am indulging in blue sky thinking but the one thing I know is there is no progress in any human field without the challenging of "expert opinion" based on the principals of logic. In the 14th Century all the experts said the world was flat. In the 18th Century no one believed there was a simple solution to the problem of longitude except by measuring the transit of Venus. In the 19th Century no one believed you could split an atom. In the 1940's British experts said electronic bombing aids would never work as the signal could not bend round the earth ... tell that to Coventry. In the early 21st Century it was proven that gastric ulceration was caused by bacteria and not by the long taught methodology.

My point is simple: Experts are only right until proven wrong; at some point all experts are proven wrong - even Einstein. The same is true for "UK Constitutional experts".

Now I just need to find a MSP to volunteer to trigger my Scotch Coo ......

There are fibs, lies, deceits and then there is UK Government propaganda

So what do you know .... it turns out after weeks of every media outlet pumping out just how brilliantly Ruth the Mooth was doing, how she was going to be the next first minister (in yer dreams hen), how she was Scotland's new sweet heart leading the Tory surge or should that be suck, as the Tories now have a Scottish vote share lower than the great Tory clear out of 1997. All of this hyper active grandstanding, by the usual suspects at the BBC and London media moguls, has been shown to be just so much self propagating hot air in Scotland with Ruthie now running an approval rating of -21 amongst her fellow Scots; compared to the collapsing fortunes of the evil and much reviled, international pariah Ms Sturgeon at +11.

If this was just one isolated event you could put it down to a bit of UKania hubris but a quick look at what actually happened in Syria where a Daesh chemical weapons dump, located in a civillian area, was bombed by the Syrian Air Force causing the deaths of civilians from the resulting, uncontrolled release of chlorine gas, as opposed to what we are told is happening (it is all Putin's faullt); then you have to give some serious thought to the veracity of any report eminating from London based  government and media sources.

How about how badly the Scottish economy is doing?

You still buying the problem has been caused by SNP economic incompetence rather than the direct fall out of Brexit as the UK lurches ever deeper into stagflation (prices rising faster than wages while the economy goes backwards and consumer confidence collapses).

No?

Try the claim that the UK still punches above its weight in "world affairs", how does that stand up to scrutiny?

Well the Trump US organ grinder told Boris, the UK monkey, to get back in his cage and leave dealing with Putin to the "big boys". Boris could not scuttle back into his cage and supply of  "Del Monte" US sponsored bananas and monkey nuts quickly enough, it is believed he left a cheetah trailing in his wake. As for our UK military might, well, that has the US Pentagon laughing until their sides are aching.

How about the UK Government claim the major oil and gas find off of Cape Wrath in the Faroes Sea is worthless to a small country like Scotland but the UK Government is more than happy to hoover up the millions of pounds from Scotland's oil and gas fields to fund its own self serving needs to kindly save us worrying about it.

The prize gem must be the claims from the London based parties regarding NHS Scotland being in just as bad a state as NHS England, our GP services in Scotland are under increasing recruitment pressure because Brexit has put off EU trained doctors from coming to Scotland. Meanwhile across England GP services have actually collapsed and in the last quarter alone a further 260,000 folk in England are now without GP service provision, according to the BMA. This number has been showing an increasing trend, quarter on quarter, for nearly four years. The actual figure is heading towards over a million people who are now without GP services in England who previously had access.

What?

You still believe that GERS is an accurate reflection of Scottish economic activity and the taxation base for an independent Scotland, you are kidding me, surely?

If this is the case, there is no hope for you and I suggest you assume the Tory 'brace' procedure and get some serious practice in kissing your arse goodbye.

"A SMALL EXPANDING SUN"

On Tuesday I sat in the cafe of the Nagasaki Nuclear Bomb museum pondering what sort of person takes human ingenuity and turns it into a weapon which on initial fission and for around a micro-second afterwards, was the size of a football and yet twice as hot as the surface of the sun. Within a second the searing heat had vapourised all carbon based materials with a 500 metre radius on the ground, caused bricks and clay tiles to melt and cermacise, bottles, crokery and pans to melt or deform while even melting and blistering the soild rock on which many of the houses stood. Here and there bits and pieces of a household's possesions survived relatively unscathed, only blackened: a cracked rice bowl, half a teapot, an earthenware container, spectacles in a case, a pair of eletrician's pincers - one handle melted away the other relatively intact.

In the same layer of fused together ceramacised bric-a-braq, nearly a metre thick, there was a belt buckle and tiny white glass spheres collected in a pile which could well have been the remains of a fuse box - with bits of what looked like wire sticking out like some modern work of art. Maybe the pincers and belt buckle are all that was left of the electrician who had been fixing a fuse on the fuse box, we will never know because the only evidence of carbon based materials, whether wood or human, is a thin layer of charcol dust at the bottom of the pile.

Five seconds later the blast compression wave landed from on high and sped off on its five kilometer dash to Nagasaki Harbour at twice the speed of sound and with a destructive force of twice that of the worst Typhoon ever recorded hitting Japan, the shape of the Urikame river valley acting to contain and focus the blast. The blast wave saw steel panel railway bridges bent and ripped apart with whole panels thrown 100 metres, the metal structures of factory buildings bent as if merely a child's toy, ferro-concrete walls and buildings pounded into dust, the air was sucked out of the chests of any animal in its path which had survived the intial flash of 3000 C plus heat. Then to add insult to injury, as nature abhors a vaccuum, hundred mile an hour winds rushed in to fill in behind the blast wave causing the smouldering remains of buildings to burst into flames up to 5 kilometers away from ground zero, in its turn creating a firestorm which took over 48 hours to bring under control.

These are the bare facts, before even attempting to get your head around the physical and emotional suffering which the people of the Urikame valley, who survived, sustained on that day and for decades after.

I am not going to argue the rights and wrongs of President Truman's decision, there is only what happened. Whether the two bombs saved many millions more Japanese and Allied people than the casualties at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, is just conjecture based on the casualty rates of the millitary (on both sides) and civilians during the battles for Okinawa and Iwo Jima. There is only what actually happened.

I mention this on a day where the dirty game being played by Russia and the USA, of war by proxy in Syria, came ever closer to an actual confrontation between the two. A confrontation an unwilling Europe would be potentially sucked into by default as NATO's "An attack against one member, is an attack against all" came into effect and the USA looked to call in its chips.

This is the dangerous game Trump is now playing after last night's attack on a Syrian Air Base by US Cruise missiles. Whether or not Assad's military used chemical weapons and crossed the USA's line in the sand is neither here nor there when you have a US President whose grasp on reality appears extremely shaky at best, whose popularity ratings are plunging faster than Brexit Sterling is devaluing or the UK economy is collapsing and is increasingly looking as if he will face impeachment on a number of serious tax avoidance and other issues.

I have been on active service, I have seen at first hand and what normal, fun loving men with kids, a wife or a partner at home can do to each other when Governments decide to escalate a conflict. At what point in any future conflict does one side or the other decide that maybe a Hiroshima or Nagasaki needs to happen again, to 'save lives'?

Once, I would have had confidence that mutual assured destruction would keep heads 'clear' but with the likes of "willy waving leaders" like Putin and Trump, I do not have this confidence anymore. I fear Israel will trigger a nuclear war in the MIddle East, as another member of the "willy waver" club, Netanyahu, would want to show both Putin and Trump just how tough he is in defence of Israel.

Remember Netanyahu is yet another right wing Head of State, who is under investigation for illegal financial activities which have the potential to destroy his political career and land him in jail. Another right wing Head of State in ever increasing trouble, Ms May of the UK Brexit Empire 2.0, may also see benefit in an escalating Syrian conflict as the Tory general election financial misuse heads for the English courts with the potential to bring down the current UK Government and force a new general election. Though what use the UK's "severely degraded conventional military capability" (according to current Pentagon analysis) would be to the USA, is a moot point.

So while we consider whether Scotland should remain as a region of Englandshire or breathe the air of independence as a nation once more, we need to keep a careful eye on just where Trump and Putin's proxy war in Syria might take us in the future and trust the majority of EU nation states, via NATO, have the courage to tell Trump he is on his own in this "manno a manno" Middle East battle with Putin. NATO pact or no NATO pact, this is not Europe's fight, no matter how hard the UK Establishment media will continue to try and tell us otherwise.

Syria must not be allowed to become the "poor, little" Serbia of the 21st Century.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

I am sitting in Edinburgh Airport waiting for my flight to Amsterdam and onwards to Japan.

Behind me Sky News are still trying to sell the idea the Nicola Sturgeon has no mandate to call a second referendum on independence. Speaker after speaker has whined on about how divisive the SNP are being but not one has attempted to address the elephant in the room, "Just why is the UK Parliamentary Union unravelling?"

It appears the London chateratty are completely sold on the architype of the the Scot having chips on both shoulders, a nation which always has a grievance. Thus it is safe to ignore Scotland as, apparently, once we have had our whine and a good whinge we will see sense and do what that nice, kindly Ms May tells us to do as we are so dependent on English generosity to survive.

The problem with this argument is stark. The 2015-16 HMRC gross figures show Scotland only got back 54% of the total tax take credited to Scotland. The problem with this figure is it does not include all the VAT and corporation tax raised in Scotland but paid into HM Treasury from English based HQ's by the likes of ASDA, Tesco, Morrisons to name but a few companies which have high turnover in Scotland. The reality is Scotland is contributing far more to the UK pot than the current figures indicate. The idea that England subsidises Scotland has no basis in reality but as long as Westminster cooks the books we will not find out the true level of Scottish tax income until we are independent but be assured it is a lot higher than the HMRC figures suggest and in real terms Scotland sees only 40% of its actual tax take returned by the avaricous H M Treasury and at that I am most likely being on the generous side.

The real question these talking heads should be being considering is just why is Scotland on the verge of ending the UK Parliamentary Union, what has gone wrong in the Westminster Parliament which leaves an increasing number of the Scottish electorate disillusioned, disenfranchised and seeking independence?

Maybe it is listening to David Davis trying to justify the lack of Brexit planning to a Parliamentary committee by saying the Tories have a plan but it is not detailed enough, yet, to present to MPs or the UK electorate but maybe in a year or so but, honest it is one hell of a plan. This is akin to Eisenhower and Montgomery landing on the Normandy beaches in June 1944 in the hopes the Germans will co-operate and just simply bugger off of their own accord. "Not to worry", Eisenhower is quoted as saying on the eve of D-Day,  "We will have a detailed battle plan by mid to late 1945, in the meantime Monty and me are just going to busk it, it will work out OK, you'll see."

Then there are the claims of "Betrayal", "Traitor" and "Could do with her head chopped off" coming from the usual culprits on the more lunatic fringes of the right wing media in London. Frothing at the mouth hubris from folk who claim their extreme and divisive version of British Nationalism is actually a cuddly wee bunny, if you get to know it. How does calling the First Minister of Scotland, elected by the majority of the SNP membership, supported by 46% of the active Scottish electorate and currently way ahead of any UK leader in terms popularity on these terms help persuade Scotland England is listening to our real concerns, our needs or expectations?

It is not only us chippy Jocks who are getting the hump with Westminster, across in Northern Ireland the idea of a unified Ireland, on Brexit, is looking more and more possible as the impact of Northern Ireland's loss of EU funding becomes ever clearer. You know this is true when Dublin's main parties have started talking about planning for Northern Ireland's integration while Seinn Fein and the rest bicker about which party will be best placed to facilitate re-unification. The weekend saw the long dormant Welsh Dragon have a wee flex of its fire ducts on the issue of ending the Principality's ties to the English Crown and Parliament.

Ms May is increasingly Westminster's Ollie to Brexit's Stan and it can not be too long before she utters the imortal words to Davis, Hammond, Gove and the rest - "This is another fine mess you've gotten me into!"

The military norm is you try not to fight on two fronts at once, May is facing fighting on three simultaneously with a possible fourth as the English electorate take to the streets over the destruction of NHS England or the imposition of fracking.

We live in interesting times.

More Mayhem? Not Really.

I will be honest with you, I did not listen to Ms May's speech for the benefit of the British Establishment media today from a two thirds empty SECC in Glasgow, masquerading as a Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party conference.

I did see the polar opposite responses to May's speech on social media. On the Yoon side ranging from "she has put the SNP in its proper place" to the increasingly crude "Sturgeon is flattened" (it was an 'f' word, maybe not flattened) while the Yes side varied from "May has cut her own throat" to variants of "May is flattened" (see "Sturgeon is flattened"). So toys have been thrown out the pram on both sides, hyperbole hyperventillated, angst aired, hatred hooted and any other similar alliterations you feel like making up for yourselves.

The reality is nothing has changed much, no matter what the media say. May has simply peddled the same core points which leaves her sounding shrill, panicked by simply saying what she has been saying for weeks; Scotland does not count and should just do what it is told to do by London. Scotland can not have different view from England because it threatens "Great Britain and the great British exit" along with all the capital gains to be accrued by Tory backers as a result of the economic fall out from Brexit.

Ms Sturgeon has made clear, again, if the UK Government is not willing to seek a solution which allows Scotland to stay in the EU, as part of its Brexit negotiations, then she will activate the Scottish Government's manifesto promise to hold a referendum so the sovereign people of Scotland can decide whether Scotland stays in the UK Parliamentary Union or in the EU, as it is increasingly clear Scotland can only remain in one or the other.

Outside of the media 'yah-boo arena' in both mainstream and social versions, nothing has changed. Neither side of this constitutional argument has struck a telling blow, no matter the fluff and flounce you will read and hear this weekend, all that is happened is the lines in the sand have been even more definitively marked.

What is surprising is the biggest guns on the UK side are firing the same anti-SNP munitions as they did in 2014 and yet the camapign is no where near starting. It is a bit like a military commander in a defensive position firing all his weapons at an attacker who is unlikely to make any attack for weeks, simply to demonstrate he is serious, while giving away all his major dispositions. It makes no real sense and suggests the UK Union's defence is already fairly thread bare if their biggest weapon is to claim the Yes side are 'racists'. A line which has been trotted out a number of times this week to ever increasing disbelief, even within elements of the British Establishment media, and ever increasing derision across Scotland.

On Thursday Ms Sturgeon came close to losing it with Scotland's political answer to Cinderella's Ugly Sisters (pc, feminist hair triggers; remember in the original fairy story the sisters are decribed as 'ugly' for their moral rather than physical demeanour) with her "Buy one, get one free" jibe as the gruesome twosome spun either the "How Now Brown Vow" re run or "The SNP has no mandate for an independence referendum" load of old rubbish.

While the main contestants circle each other in the pre-fight breifing, growling and threatening the worst, nothing can or will happen until Ms May gives notice to the EU, firing the Article 50 gun. Until then we are stuck in a period of phoney war, unsettling because we are certain this political war will go hot by the end of March 2017, unless Ms May blinks and steps back from the brink, an outcome for which you will get very long odds at the "Bookies".

So let us stay calm, not get exercised about what Ms May did or did not say today and leave the Yoons to carry on panicking and hollering, in the process wearing both themselves and their supporters down. All before the UK Government have to start fighting with both the EU and the Yes movement in Scotland simultaneously.

Dougie; Patriot of Britain

As this week stumbles along the surreal world of Labour in Scotland continues to astound and amaze those looking in from the outside.

The Sadiq Khan speech backfires massively, yet erstwhile Labour 'big hitters' in Scotland seek to defend his, SNP are racists speech. Dougie "Patriot of Britian" Alexander is now at it with his view that it is nationalistsic (aka racist) to support an independent Scotland but patriotic to defend the United Kingdom. He states nationalism is about hatred then goes on to pour his bile and hatred on the SNP and Scottish independence supporters in general, with out any thought to the dichotomy his own actions create.

We see what the patriots supporting Brexit are doing, trying to paint anyone who disagrees with them with the same brush, the same failings of seeking exclusion, imperial glory, white supremacy and the rest which the current UK Government policies are actually pursuing on a daily basis. Dougie Alexander and his ilk are past parody they are what they are, narrow bigotted, self seeking, small minded wee men and women who have had their Scottish scone torn from their grasp. Labour in Scotland's core problem remains they can not fathom why they are being left behind or why they can no longer simply weigh their votes in Scotland or even in 'working class' England anymore.

Labour UK's answer appears to be to keep doing the same thing, following the same policies which has brought them to the verge of collapse as a political party. The PLP can point fingers at the shadow cabinet for all they are worth for the recent loss in Cumbria but are in uproar when an outsider to their gang points out Labour in Cumbria had taken its electorate for granted for too long, put little effort in between elections and paid the price of their complacency.

In Scotland even Labour diehards are finding it difficult to fathom where their party is being lead, some trot out thier outdated 'socialism' mantra of it will be OK once the 'workers' take control and mutter about  the need for solidarity with a UK wide 'working class' brother and sisterhood which only exists, to any extent, in their own, fevered imaginations. The problem for Labour's socialist cadre is the likes of Dougie 'Patriot of Britian' Alexander and the Labour PLP will never allow that to happen. There are too many nice consultancies and other back pocket earners at stake for Danny and his pals to allow mere 'workers' to have any say on actual Labour Party Policy.

One of Labour's  future 'young guns' returned depressed and disheartened from Perth, pointing out Scottish Labour was only interested in Westminster and this was reflected in the platform speeches. The message to conference was, "Scotland does not matter to Scottish Labour", a damning indictment from one of their own.

The world financial markets are already setting their stall out for sterling on the increasing likelihood of Scottish independence and it is not looking that good. Reuters and Bloomberg are both advising readers that sterling is going to be in the doldrums for sometime, ever more susceptable to stagflation (low economic growth combined with rapidly rising prices), a trend which is now being reflected amongst consumers across the UK as rising inflation begins to bite and impulse consumer spending slows.

UK Government departments have been told to reduce spending by 6% by the UK Treasury, in the next fiscal year, an announcement sneaked out under the furore about a Lords Brexit revolt which never happened or was likely to happen.

The poor, the sick, the vulnerable, disabled and the old are all to pay for Dougie; Patriot of Britain's world which he seeks to ulogise. EU immigrants are to be discarded like so much chaff and random expulsions of 'illegal immigrants' are to be the norm in the British 'patriotism' Dougie Alexander seeks to protect and promote. Somehow, this is a better world than an independent Scotland could ever hope to aspire to with its narrow 'nationalism'.

I think the man is terminally confused, as is the 'Britain' he claims as his own, yet maybe he has just banged his head against one political brick wall too many or is still reeling from having his political hegemony torn from under his feet by a wee lassie from Paisley who has shown more political gumption in the time she has been at Westminster than he did in his whole career.

Dougie; Patriot of Britian, you can stuff your bitter, narrow anger where the sun does not shine with your false premise of a resurgent Brexit Empire, you are not so much a 'patriot' in Scotland more a 'toom tabard'.

Anas Khan or is it Sadiq Sawar?

Sadly many remaining in the "Scotch" branch of the Labour party still do not seem to understand why they are a laughing stock under the leadership of the Kez and Anas show in an ever escalating number of Scots' eyes.

Anas has been trying to spin the idea that Sadiq Khan did not turn to him for advice for breifing on the situation in Scotland, yet the irrational anti-SNP sentiment is one he routinely peddles to those few sad media folk in Scotland who still listen to him if, no longer hanging onto his every word.

Corbyn came to Scotland with the same tosh and nonsense line and must be really annoyed few if any cared what he had to say.

We have had the nonsense claim of solidarity with the workers in England and Wales and yet I do not see any of the English based Unions calling for a general striketo close down the DWP until they stop shutting Scottish offices for only one reason; because they can and it will not hurt the Westminster Tory vote in Scotland because there really isn't one they are much bothered about. Where is the 'workers solidarity' with the majority of Scots who wish to remain in the EU, not the least because their employment is dependent on doing so?

It comes to something when the potential chair of Scottish Young Labour sets his concerns down that the conference failed to address any Scottish issues and was totally Westminster focussed. After his observations on the emptiness of the main platform speakers he can give up on any hope of ever making it the current "Scotch" Branch of Labour.

I am left no wiser as to what Labour's message to Scotland was much beyond SNP bad, you are all vicious and ignorant bigots for voting SNP. You need to be sensible and vote Labour to stop the Tories in Scotland (we all know how well that has worked over the last 50+ years)

In the meantime it appears the recent best pals in Better Together are already walking over Scotch Branch Labour's still warm, self dug, grave telling folk the only way to stop the SNP from taking over the councils is to vote for them as Labour as a political force in Scotland are dead. The Libdems are still huddled in their telephone box deciding what to do; maybe they will claim to be the people to stop the Tories or maybe the SNP or maybe Labour but you know how it is with Willie Rennies Libdems and decision making.

The Greens will be in a pickle deciding whether contesting council seats is a potential waste of the world's resources or can they run a carbon neutral, wholly sustainable campaign and maybe get sponsorship from Tesla cars. That's the problem with trying to be green, just where do you draw the line of being in bed with the corporates, even if they are 'green' in some respect.

As for the SNP will they let local potential councillors address local issues which are actually impacting on local folk or will they have to agree to be mentored at every turn? Also known as toeing the general party line on the impact of Westminster cuts on local councils via the Scottish Government / Cosla agreement and that the budget reduction which has to be imposed because of the Westminster cut to Scotland's pocket money is somehow a 'good deal'. I would just like to see a heap of honesty on this one but given the SNP leader on my local council I will not be holding my breath. I have a staggering idea for the SNP council campaign and it is this:
  • THE SNP WILL PROMISE TO STOP PLAYING PETTY PARTY POLITICS AT COUNCIL LEVEL AND DEAL WITH LOCAL PEOPLE'S ACTUAL CONCERNS
  • SNP HQ WILL STOP TRYING TO MICROMANAGE THE COUNCIL CAMPAIGNS AT LOCAL LEVEL
  • THERE WILL BE FULL TRANSPARENCY ON THE IMPACT ON COUNCIL SERVICES OF THE WESTMINSTER BUDGET CUT TO SCOTLAND'S POCKET MONEY
The reality is the SNP also has its Anas Khan's and Sadiq Sawars for whom the end is far more important than the means by which they get there and will lie and disemble just as well as their Tory / "independent" opposition, then wonder why ordinary SNP members can not trust them as far as we can throw them while pleading with us it is what they had to do to get elected.

To all you potential SNP councilors I say; no you do not have play the sordid old Union game of lying your heads off and slagging the opposition at every turn - try honesty and openness instead, as that will really confuse your yoonist opposition stuck, as they are, in their yah-boo politic habit, dare to be different from UK politics, be honest.

Then again I might just be as well go along to an ask Scotch Labour just what their conference was about and expect an answer.

BBC - fool us once ...

I note in today's National and commentators across the pro indy media have met the BBC's generous offering of a sop to Scotland with a dedicated 'news', channel sometime in Autumn 2018, with a homogenous level of sarcasim, cynicism and down right hilarity. So far has the BBC now sunk in many Scots' opinion, as an arbiter of impartial news, that few are willing to defend the corporation's latest attempt to cover over the gaping cracks in its Scottish facade of ever more obvious 'Yoonery' in the face of a Scottish population which is far better politically informed than of yore and less and less buying its "Don't leave the UK, its for your greater good to Stay Scotland".

Personally, I am with those who see this simply as a cynical BBC ploy to pretend its accepted view of Scotland has changed while actually sitting on both its hands while humming "Rule Britania" under its breath and hoping we can not hear. The marker is that by Autumn 2018 the UK Parliamentary Union may well be as good as dead as the Tories right wing, anti-EU agenda unravels at an ever faster rate over the next eighteen months. The BBC will not be able to hide the serial numbers of social welfare and health problems that are driving England to serious social and ethnic tension and in turn have only one inevitable outcome, major protests turning to rioting on the streets of England's cities as the Tories are unable to respond to the populations actual needs without throwing all their current facist, fiscal policies in the bin along with the support of the money which is currently backing them.

For people who think only Nazis are Fascists; please understand the true definition of a fascist state as being one which is run primarily for the benefit of politicians and their financial backers (often refered to as 'oligarchs'). This may well include the use of a slave / prison population as a source of labour, as Bayer and others did between 1936 and 1945 in Germany, or cheap labour maintained by government policies of company tax breaks and indirect subsidies via low wage support programs, relaxation of working conditions (the UK's zero hours contracts for example) or temporary work permits for immigrants (without whom much of UK food production would grind to a halt), as is currently the situation in many UK manufacturing, food, distribution and service industries. The UK Government by any description of the word is fascist by nature and always has been, putting corporate profit above public good at every turn. We are simply in a UK political cyce where the smoke and mirrors which normally blind us to this fundamental truth are so diffuse, as to be transparent to those with the eyes and wit to see.

Do not take my word for it; Enoch Powell now of imfamy for his anti-immigration "Rivers of Blood" speech, himself a strange mix of traditional Tory isolationist, white supramacist and democrat, decribed the UK as an elected dictatorship, a pseudo-democracy where real power lay in the hands of a small number of people (the UK Cabinet) and the UK Parliament was by and large a rubber stamping device which allows the people with actual power to hide from true accountability. Nothing much has changed since he said that in 1970, if anything Blairism and its even more extreme Tory, neo-liberal replacement has made the situation far worse.

The evidence?

The term "Post Truth Politics' could only come about if the UK Cabinet believed it could not be held directly responsible for its current rush to destroy welfare and health care in England (and inevitably the rest of the current UK). A move being made to ensure big profits for its friends, the oligarchs, in the global business world. This is what is happening across NHS England provision and the ironically called Department for Welfare and Pensions evidences and what is actually going on as "outsourcing NHS and Welfare provision" to companies with fully bought in Tory and Labour politicians (and their parties) in their pockets becomes the norm. A situation which fails to raise even the slightest frisson of contempt or concern in our national media as they huddle around like the Neighbourhood Watch in the film "Hot Fuzz", chuntering "The greater good" in unison, while worring more about winning the tidiest media award than exposing the high levels of open corruption, peadophilic abuse and malfeasance (to name but a few of the UK political systems more serious failings), in the UK government and the Houses of Parliament.

It is in this scenario the BBC's offer of a "Scottish News" channel should be viewed, as just another attempt to hide the real truth of this failed UK Union and its powerless parliament. Consider this: if power actually lay with the UK Parliament there would be no offer of a State visit to Donald Trump and the current one would be withdrawn. The offer has not been rescinded in spite of our supposed UK Parliamentary representatives and a large section of the UK electorate telling the UK Government they do not support this state visit by such a toxic and febrile US President as Trump.

On the issue of the UK being elected dictatorship, I am in full agreement with Enoch Powell.

It is time for the Sovereign People of Scotland to call a halt to this perversion of democracy, this failed democratic experiment in the only way we can, end the UK Parliamentary Union as quickly as is humanly possible.

Don-don and Maggie May's Transaction

In the world of psychotherapy there are long running fueds which surface at conferences across the world when papers are presented on such topics as:
  • Freud; a groomer of vulnerable young women and sexual predator?
  • Was Jung just an Edwardian hippy and lech?
  • Eric Berne - misogynist, bully and fascist
In this way the psychotheraputic schools of thought do battle by belittling original thinkers in the field by taking what these original thinkers did or said out of its historical context and measuring against 21st Century norms. In the process the original thinkers find themselves ostracised by the great and good of the psychotheraputic world because they sadly suffer from the same human failings, no matter how much they tried not to (greed, lust, envy), humans all have and are not fit to be placed on any pedestal except to be knocked down and ground into the dust. They then go to their day jobs and utilise talking therapy (Freud) or art, poetry and music therapy (Jung) or cognitive therapy (Berne) or any mix and match choice they wish in their attempts to help their clients / patients resolve their mental health problems and so live happier, more stable and less neurotic lives.

Berne came up with a model to seek to understand how we talk to each other, with ourselves and how we transact with the world. Unfortunately much of his writing and theorising was undertaken in the late 1940's and early 50's and is spattered with descriptions of imbedded transactions such as the "Little Housewife" which describes a way of transacting with others that is not gender specific but had a label feminists used to shred Berne's ideas in the early 1970's and turn him into an anathema as a typical male, archiac, patriarchal, dominant, control freak. Berne's core ideas have re-entered the psychotheraputic world in the guise of Neuro-Linguistic programming though any NLP practitioner will expressly deny this is the case (Berne is still thought of as a 'bad man' and has yet to be fully rehabilitated). It is to this "bad man" I turn in my essay today.

Berne's core idea was essentially simple and it was this; as a human we can choose to engage with other humans or our inner self either as a child, an adult or a parental voice as follows;
  • Child voice - manupulative, wheedling, ill tempered, focussed on 'me' at the expense of anything else
  • Adult voice - reasoned, listening, consultative, sharing focussed on "us"
  • Parental voice - controlling, dominant, knows what is best, foccused on "I"
If I transcribe this into the party leaderships at Holyrood in simplistic terms I can describe, from this model, how Kezia Dugdale is transacting predominantly from her child voice, Ruth Davidson from her parental voice and Nicola Sturgeon from her adult voice. Watch FMQs for the signs both in speech and gestures. Kezia is a great one for the flounce when she is thwarted by Nicola's adult voice. When Kezia is put down by Nicola, yet again, her body language screams "Its just no fair, why me? I am getting picked on yet again!". As human's we pick up on these signals which is in part when Kezia actually says something of import she still gets "told" by our own parental voice, in as many words, to get back in her play pen and stop bothering the adults.

Her best Unionist buddy, Ruth, meanwhile comes at FMQs manily from the parental, I know best, voice and so we should all just do what ever Ruth says because it is for our own good she is telling us this. Watch her body language when Nicola points out from her adult voice just why Ruth is talking a load of old mince. You will see Ruth shaking her head, metaphorically crossing her arms and wanting to tell us why it is all going to end in tears because only she is right. It explains in part why Tory MSPs act in the way they do because they always believe their 'parent' is always right so they must be as well, no matter what utter load of tosh and nonsense they spout. Instictively all of us who are not of Ruth's gang feel alienated, angry and have a child like urge to lash out. We respond to Ruth's parent from our child voice. Just watch Scottish independence Facebook feeds for evidence of a child like response after another headmistress performance from Ruth at FMQs.

Nicola seeks to present, as far as is ever possible, from her adult voice which is why so many folk in Scotland instinctively trust her. She comes across as actually listening to the people of Scotland and seeking to do the best she can to ensure the expectations and needs of the people of Scotland for good government are met as far as is humanly possible. Yes she will unleash her parental voice on Kezia in the form of a put down and, like the clever woman she is, will use her child voice to cheekily subvert Ruth's parent but her popularity is founded in her ability to seek to use her adult voice as the dominant voice when transacting with the Scottish public and the world in general.

Berne's core theory also explains, in part, why hard core Unionists, either Labour, Liberal or Tory are so "unreasonable" in the Yes camp's eyes. We seek to engage them from our adult voice and end up being faced by an outraged parental voice, a parental voice that has been conditioned over many years to believe Westminster always knows best and Scotland is lucky to be ruled by Westminster. Hard core Unionists can not afford to transact from their adult voice because if they do they are scared they will have to reject everything they have invested such a high level of belief in by being forced to be reasonable. Their only position to defend themselves is one of, "I am right, you are wrong." where fear presents as arrogance. We in turn take to the barricades in this situation and respond from our own parental voice which inevitably ends up in arguement and hostility.

The only, previously, pro Union supporters who will change from 'No' to 'Yes' are those who see reason to do so by nature of engaging their adult voice and of their own accord, based on their own analysis of the changing circumstances they find themselves in; for example, EU citizens who voted 'No' in 2014 or Scottish pensioners who are waking up to reality they have been utterly shafted by Westminster over their state pension provision.

As for the click bait title it is not hard to see Donald Trump as a spoiled child, used to always getting his own way and throwing temper tantrums when he doesn't such as the US Courts telling him his presidential order Muslim ban was 'unconstitutional'. As for Ms May she seems to have gone all parental telling Don-don things would be OK once she gets poor little Britian out of the EU or childish when getting her butt molested by Don-don.

A US President who operates mainly out of his child and parental voices is not healthy for our modern world, he is a real danger. The problem is he is surrounded by and always has been surrounded by, people who only ever engage with his parent or child voice. Ms May is just the latest to do so because it is easier than telling Don-don the adult reality of the impact of his actions on himself and others because Don-don is always right, no matter what, capice?

The question arises whether the ever increasing mockery by people in the US and the world at large of the current president will drive Don-don's child to throw a temper tantrum which is so stupid that it ends up in his being impeached and kicked out or someone, somewhere knows a man with a sniper rifle and is willing to pay for Don-don's scalp or at least his wig. The worst of all options is Don-don ends up in a war with China, one neither side can possibly win in the conventional sense, but the whole of the world will pay a heavy price for. All because no one in his own entourage has the courage to stand up to Don-don and say thus far and no further; probably because Don-don's adult voice is so diminished it is next to non-existent, so we are left hoping someone in the US Capitol will find a way to take away his presidential toys before he does the world some serious damage while shouting, "He hit me first!" in self justification.

The Bear and the Elephant's big day out

So Donald and Mickey want to have a war with China, while Walt Disney ...

Mr Putin has slipped his dogs of war in the ethnic Russian part of Ukraine off their leash to unsettle Europe.

Donald's pro Saudi Arabian / anti Iran activities have also moved up a notch; though luckily Iran are not, so far, buying into the lies coming from the USA Administration's attempt to foment further Middle East conflict. Especially in the aftermath of US 'special forces' cock up in the Yemen this week which had at its centre Donald's need to show he was "doing something about terrorism". An operation which Donald's pick as NSA chief forced on the Pentagon in spite of the poor intelligence, lack of on the ground reconnaissance, incorrect identification of target and lack of overall planning for the operation.

While our UK, Alzheimer media attention is on all this pish and wind, just what is actually going on? Should we be worried?

The answer is, as ever, follow the money; in terms of GDP growth of the big three which are China, USA and Russia.

China's rapid growth over the last two decades has sucked money out of both the USA and the Russian economies through low cost of production, inward investment in Chinese industry and unskilled job losses, creating ever greater downward pressure on the income of those at the bottom of the wages heap at a time of rising prices, in both the USA and Russia. A good old fashioned war, the thinking goes in Trump Towers, would be an excellent way of employing the unskilled unemployed while getting rid of the problem in the longer term by putting as many of the previously unemployed, as possible, in the ground.

Rather than look to their own economic failures and the reasons it is happening (too much money in too few pockets) it is far easier for the USA and Russia to seek a scapegoat - China. After all it is China which is flooding the world market place with cheap goods, so it must be China's fault for all these job losses in the USA and Russia or so Donald and his new 'bestie' Vladimir would like their respective nations to believe while forgetting much of Donald Trump's labelled products are made in China so he can get a bigger mark up on these sales. Worse; all these jobs that China has not stolen from Russia and the USA are being taken up by illegal immigrants and refugees piling into the country forcing US and Russian citizens onto welfare and long term unemployment. The reality is rather different, as an impact of the poor wages and job security many of these jobs (in the likes of Walmart) entail, the only people likely to apply are immigrants and refugees who do not realise they are being ripped off in near slave labour conditions while the likes of Walmart pocket defacto USA government employment subsidies as 'stakeholder profits'.

It is not that much of an intellectual jump to comprehend the only way Donald and Mickey can have their war with China is if Russia,
  1. Keeps out
  2. Gains a sizable economic benefit from keeping out
  3. Secures economic gains for its satellite nations in the Asian region
  4. Gets bits of a defeated China's lands, along Russia's shared border (the bits they had to give back in 1945 after invading Manchuria, for example)
  5. Gains influence or even control over a weakened Europe in the aftermath of such a conflict. A Europe which will, possibly, feel forced to side with the USA against China.
Otherwise, why should Putin sit on the fence, except to pick up the pieces when the USA, its Asian allies and China wear each other out physically and economically, leaving only Putin's Russia standing. So if Donald and Mickey have secured some sort of deal like this from Putin's Russia, they are supping from an extremely poisoned chalice and likely to take a whole load of Western countries with them.

I have little doubt that one of Trump's biggest cheer leaders in Europe, supporting such a disastrous Far Eastern war, will be the UK Tory Government of the day, happy to pile up this breech in China's Great Wall with their English (and Welsh and Scottish and Irish) dead while BAE, Racal, Lockheed-Martin and other weapons manufacturer's shareholders gain bumper, bonus yields on their holdings.

Back in the UK, citizens will get ever poorer, even worse health care provision and see ever increasing levels homelessness. UK citizens will be told by the BBC and London media; we are at war, everyone has to do their part and make sacrifices for the boys and girls at the front, even if that means sickness, starvation, poverty and homelessness. By the way UK citizens; this wave, nay Tsunami of poverty, starvation and homelessness in the UK is actually all those illegal immigrants and refugees fault (who we, the Tory Government, still have failed to control) and nothing to do with us spending all the UK's money, your tax contributions, on creating and ever escalating UK debt, for a war we can not actually afford, are unlikely to win and out of which we will gain 'squat diddly' in economic or trade benefit as the big bucks have already split between the USA and Russia. Just the same as happened in Iraq after US/UK invasion to topple Saddam when, after all the promises given to the UK Government of the day, Halliburton and their pals hoovered up all the USA reconstruction aid, primarily to the benefit of their own shareholders, rather than rebuilding Iraq's destroyed infrastructure.

So if the Russian Bear and the USA Republican Elephant do go for a big day out in China, anytime soon, the only answer for a Scottish nation, still tied up in this foetid UK Union, is to put your heads between your legs and kiss your arse good bye!

When Fluffy Blunderella waves a shroud ...

Oh dear, going with the EU and dumping the UK would mean Scotland losing out on our £5 billion energy market in England and Wales according to Fluffy Blunderella, the hirsute host of 'Uncle Jock's Cabin' in Whitehall.

"Oh how disastrous for Scotland", wails his Greek tragedy chorus of Unionist media types as they rush to copy and paste their overused "too stupid, too wee, too poor Scotland"  piece of puff, under their standard "SNPbad" headlines.

The question arises, to anyone with a couple of neurons and a synapse, just what will England and Wales do without this importation from Scotland of an annual £5 billion worth of energy and where will they get the missing £5 billion worth from which they are no longer importing from Scotland?

England and Wales are currently importing the maximum they can over the Calais / Dover High Voltage DC (HVDC) provided by an EU contract with EDF, the Hague to East Anglia HVDC, importing power from NW Europe was being held up at the East Anglian end by a planning dispute, last I heard, while work has only just started on a HVDC link between Holyhead and Rosslaire to import reuseable sourced energy from Southern Ireland.

So if non EU England and Wales are not going to import energy from an independent Scotland in the EU just where will they get it from?

If you look at a map, the scenario for England and Wales, outside the EU, are the surrounding potential sources to make up the energy deficit, caused by taking the huff with an independent Scotland, will all be EU members. EU members who will only be too willing to ensure maximum pain for the English and Welsh economies in any new energy deal in support of a fellow EU nation, Scotland.

For Scotland, the new John O'Groats / Bergen HVDC is not far off being commissioned which will allow power generation companies direct access to NW Europe from Scotland, a massive market which will easily replace the lost England and Wales business, encourage further inward investment in Scottish reusables and has the potential to bring down Scottish domestic and business energy costs, as there would no longer be the heavy penalty charged to Scottish generators which props up the current UK National Grid.

There is only one sure fired outcome for England and Wales in this situation, energy costs will rise by a sizable amount as the bulk energy market will have the whip hand and will ensure the English and Welsh economy pays the true commercial rate for imported energy while the National Grid of England and Wales will have to raise transmission costs to make up the shortfall as the present Scottish Energy generator subsidy dries up. All these rising costs will also apply to gas imports via Grangemouth from the Scottish gas fields to the English and Welsh gas grid.

The increased cost of gas will also hit generating costs as England, especially, is increasingly reliant on gas turbines burning North Sea gas to smooth out heavy electricity demand periods, even with the current importation of energy from Scotland.

Now imagine the struggle to keep the lights on in England when there is no energy imported from Scotland. A likely impact was demonstrated a few years ago during a sudden rise in power demand in Southern England when Longannet had a switch failure and could not meet the demand when asked to by the National Grid. The impact of the severe voltage surges caused the East Anglian nuclear plants to trip out to protect themselves from potential damage from the fluctuations. Power outages caused trading floors to shut down in the 'City' losing traders millions, banks in the 'City' could not action transfers of millions of pounds of business in the UK and abroad as their systems shut down, trains in Kent and on parts of the London Tube ground to a halt and the ripples went out as far as Oxford where the power surge caused a fire in the Oxford Police's computer centre, as cooling systems failed.

This was the impact of just one Scottish power plant failing to meet demands for increased load from Southern England. Now imagine the impact the equivalent of £5 billion worth of Scottish energy not being there to meet the actual demand for energy, will have on the English and Welsh economies, businesses, services and domestic use.

The problems of energy supply for Southern England are only likely to get worse even if there is no UK break up. The National Grid are already telling government they are near the limit of the current capacity in Southern England and without major investment in upgrading the National Grid and generating capacity they are predicting an increase in power outages (cuts - to you and me) in domestic supply to ensure key businesses are adequately supplied within the next five to ten years.

Westminster's response has been to move to build a new nuclear plant at Hinkley Point in Somerset and seek to push through legislation to ensure on shore 'fracking' for natural gas in England and Wales goes ahead as fast as possible, in spite of well founded local opposition to any such project. After Brexit without Scotland as part of the UK, Westminster faces some serious problems with energy supply for which fracking and the increased use of gas turbine generators driven from this source of gas, is only a short term solution to deal with varying demand and does not deal with the generation under capacity at the heart of it all, an under capacity in generation hidden from English view by Scottish over capacity and exports to England.

So to Fluffy Blunderella I say this:

Just who should actually be scared if Scotland moves its £5 billion of energy market sales from England and Wales to the European continental markets and beyond?

Me?

I do not think it is Scotland's economy or energy industry which has anything to fear, in fact the English shutting us out of their domestic energy market is more likely to be a 'good thing' for Scotland in the short, medium and long term.

Nuclear waffle and piffle

I listened on the radio to Mr Fallon, the erst while UK defence against the dark arts minister, wiffle, waffle and serve cold piffle in his attempts to bury the news of the Trident D5 launch failure. He produced his ultimate deterrent to further questioning by saying, it was not MoD policy to talk about UK Submarine Operations.

So what do we actually 'know'? (if you do not wish to read the argument you can flip to the summary below)

The missile was successfully delivered from HMS Vanguard to the surface then failed when it was doing the bit designed, serviced and run by the USN and Lockheed-Martin at RNAD Coulport; the actual D5 Trident missile went awry. This in turn meant the dummy multiple re-entry vehicle (UK), also known as the UK nuclear deterrent (aka; mostly a load of concrete) headed towards the USA and not some where off the west coast of Africa as originally planned.

The hoo-haa is not about the missile's failure but that this was yet another Trident weapons system failure of major importance and if announced before the Trident renewal vote might have forced the British Establishment to answer just why we are buying a ballistic missile system, designed in the 1970's, for service through to 2020 with new bits tacked and glued on, to extend its life to 2070 and its impending 100th Birthday.

It is clear which ever bit of the MoD which allowed this to be leaked is less than enamoured with being saddled with a 'new' version of Trident. Just imagine if you still had Windows 3.0 and had only down loaded all the patches up until now with out updating the core operating system to say, Windows XP.

OK; you would probably still have a better operating system than the latest Windows confection but you get my point with reference to the 'latest' version of Trident we are buying, for an over inflated price with no further fixes and patches after 2025. From then the US Navy, Army and Air force are going to build a joint services, multi-role nuclear ballistic program for USA use only. After this project begins the USN will stop funding any further development of Lockheed-Martin's Trident missile project and are planning to rundown the Trident missile maintenance side by 2050, as all the USN Trident fitted submarines are scheduled to be out of service by then (and may be even sooner if decommissioning of the USN Trident fleet is accelerated).

The UK Trident will then be serviced by who and at what price, given the current UK D5 missile servicing contract is heavily subsidised by the USN Trident program?

The next question is why are we buying the 'new' Trident system given the UK can not afford to ensure the current D5 missile is loaded with the maximum number of warheads. The political tale is of a cunning plan to deploy 'fake weapons (lumps of concrete)' from the UK MRV to fool enemy missile defences and give the real weapons a better chance of getting on to their targets. This is about as cunning as Baldrick's bestest plan in the whole wide world. If you want to ensure the maximum number of weapons get through to the target, you put the maximum number of real nuclear weapons into the MRV and onto the target you can, this is a far better and safer bet.

Then there is the small issue that most ground based anti-ballistic missile systems are designed to take out an incoming weapon at the top of its ballistic arc or just before. By doing this you are more likely to either disable (prevent arming), destabilise ( push off course) or disrupt (blow up) the missile before weapon release than trying to hit a multiple number of smaller contacts released from the MRV which may or may not be nuclear warheads, in the UK instance, and are more likely to be lumps of concrete.

A summary, so far:
  • New Trident is not new, it is a missile system originally designed in the 1970's to see service through to 2020
  • The missile operating system has more tack ons, bodges and patches than current Windows operating programs
  • The UK can not afford to use the weapon system as designed
  • The USN Trident Missile development program shuts down in 2025
  • USN Trident Missile Maintenance program is scheduled to close down in 2050
  • Our excuse for a UK MRV nuclear warhead is laughable and 'government claims' do not stand up to any serious tactical scrutiny
  • There is a serious fault in the current D5 missile as demonstrated by the missile failure after successful egress (launch) from HMS Vanguard
  • It would seem the service side of the MoD do not want 'new' Trident
This is on top of a series of tell-tales from 'sailors in the submarine service' which have appeared in the press over the last 18 months with regards to the leakage of highly corrosive fluids from the D5 which damaged the launch tubes and missile bay, putting sailors at risk from toxic fumes and chemical burns, the poor morale among the ballistic missile boat's crews, failures of nuclear safety both at sea and in harbour, breakdowns, collisions with other NATO submarines on exercises, crew shortages or the illegal dumping of nuclear contaminated material in the sea.

To this ex-RN Officer this sort of behaviour reflects poor, muddled, disjointed and ineffective leadership from the top (that is you Mr Fallon and your Conservative Party UK Defence Policy) which has lead to demoralisation of RN personnel at all levels in the nuclear weapon submarine fleet, as is clearly demonstrated by all the detailed internal leaks of the particular problems this part of the RN is having. Someone high up in the RN MoD is turning a Nelsonian blind eye to so many anonymous submarine sailor's publicly having a moan in the press and on radio, in breach of all security protocols, and thumbing their nose at Mr Fallon's claims that operations of the Submarine or 'Silent Service' are not to be talked about.

There are just too many loud noises off, Mr Fallon, to sell that line of obfuscation, pull the other one, it has bells on. There is clearly something going very bad at the heart of the proud RN psyche and especially its once 'Silent Service'.

All this before you even begin to contemplate the horrendous impact of nuclear weapon detonations on the world and all its life forms.

Is stupid the same as denial?

I listened with interest today as four fellow golfers (70+) talked about Ms May and how she had stopped the SNP and independence in their tracks after Tuesday's big speech. They seemed reassured by Donald Trump's assurance of a USA trade deal and swallowed hook line and sinker the idea the day after Brexit all would be hunky-dory as the UK would also have trade deals with Canada and New Zealand as well. After all, was this not what the Daily Mail, Express and Daily Telegraph had reassured them is going to happen, so it must be true. Ms Sturgeon and the SNP had not a leg to stand on, Scotland would just have to do what Westminster told us to do whether Scotland liked it or not.

Let us hold on for a minute. These folk are not stupid, three out of the four ran their own successful, small businesses and yet I was left astounded at the degree of twisting reality to fit their own prejudices that was going on. There was not the slightest cognisance of the reality which is; not one trade deal can begin to be negotiated until after the UK has exited the EU, let alone brought into effect.

Most trade experts agree the earliest any new trade agreement could be brought into force between the USA and UK would be two years after Brexit, given the requirements of any trade deal to secure fiscal and legal checks and balances. Complex trade deals take up to five years or more to agree unless the UK Government is simply going to concede every advantage to the USA and become a defacto state of the USA, the irony would be lost on the 'Free Britain from the EU yoke',Tories.

Until any such trade deals are agreed and ratified by the UK Parliament, the UK will trade with the rest of the world on the basis of World Trade Organisation tariffs. Again, none of this can happen or be put in place until after Brexit.

The current estimates of the hard cash cost to the UK taxpayers of the process of Brexit range from between £30 billion at the bottom end to £50 billion at the top end. Money which will need to be paid to the EU to cover the costs incurred by the EU to expunge the UK from all its current treaties, laws and regulations and the EU side's costs of administering the Article 50 process. The UK wants to leave then EU then the UK pays all the costs of doing so.

Yesterday HSBC announced another 1,000 senior jobs were being moved from London to Paris, this is on top of the 10,000 senior finance jobs which have already left the City of London since the 23rd of June 2016. It would seem the financial world does not see the same glorious end result for the UK economy from Hammond and the Tories rush to create the UK as being the ultimate 'tax haven' for big money. The rich folk meeting at Davos are reported as being seriously underwhelmed by May and Hammond's fiscal plan for the UK and the WTO are pointing out the limits their organisation places on such fiscal jiggery-pokery all of which will seriously curtail Hammond's 'big idea' to save the UK economy.

Yet if you only listen to or read the London based UK media you would never find out what the rest of the world thinks about the Tories rushing the UK to the economic cliff edge with their 'Brexit means Brexit' mantra.

Reuters is reporting the pound is currently at its lowest level against the dollar for 30 years and its lowest ever level versus the Euro. While Bloombergs are reporting increasing world financial worries that the UK is slipping into a period of 'stagflation', that is persistent high inflation combined with high unemployment and stagnant demand in a country's economy. This is the real impact of austerity
and Brexit on the UK economy , no matter the rosy glow of better than forecast economic growth for 2016 -17 being waved around like Chamberlain's claim of "Peace in our time". Instead of 0.9% the IMF now say UK growth is likely to be 1.3%, based on the previous quarter. This 'increase' in forecast growth is, of course, being sold in the Daily Mail as a positive sign and can only have been brought about by Brexit. The problem is the last quarter's UK economic growth figures have yet to be finalised, so the real figure could well end up back at 0.9% and lower or even be as high 1.5%. No one actually knows until the UK's NAO reports on its final adjusted figures for the quarter.

Outside of the world of the sweat marked semmit and urine stained, tattered Union Flag Y-fronts of UKIP and the Tories few think Brexit is anything else but disastrous for the UK economy. Sadly it appears Corbyn's Labour have also bought into this vision of UK loveliness and are donning the requisite semmit and Union flag Y-fronts, as I type. They too seem to be under the impression that Scotland will just have to do what it is told to do by Westminster, no matter whether the majority of the sovereign people of Scotland agree with Westminster or not. Labour and Corbyn are now most definitely part of the problem and do not represent any solution for Scotland's concerns for its place in an increasingly fascist leaning, post Brexit, UK. Over the next 18 months to two years we Scots will just have to sit in Westminster's naughty corner while the British Establishment grown ups decide what is best for us, if you believe what is being said by the BBC, Telegraph, Mail or Express. The message is clear from the British Establishment mouth pieces, "Scotland, just shut the fuck up!"

The question remains, "Will we get back in our box or not?" in the face of ever shriller attacks on our nation by an increasingly feart Westminster; my friends at the golf club are definitely for getting back in the box as for me, I will continue to shout from the roof tops;

"Let us get the hell out of this perfidious UK Union Treaty as fast as is practicable."

Once Liz has popped her clogs, the anachronistic Scottish crown can follow - it has had its day. Maybe we can choose our future king or queen, annually, through some sort of talent show contest vote. Just imagine, we could end up with a year of King Wee Shuggie frae Drumchapel chosen for his impression of Billy Connolly singing  "Grannie's Fuckin' Hielan' hame"  or Queen Euphemia frae Peterheid playing "Bach's Toccata and Fugue" on her nose flute. You could have Kezia the Dug and Ruth the Mooth as two of the judges and get Wullie Rennie to compaire the gig then chuck in Neil Oliver and Alisdair Darling as judges, as well, to keep everyone happy and nostalgic for the old days of the British Empire.

Anything has to be better than the current bunch of Saxe-Coburgs.

Colonel Boggey-man land

So; 2017 is upon us and is already looking like an even worse rehash of 2016.

Donald Trump of 6 bankruptcies, massive debts, owing his workforce at Trump Towers around $5 million and already facing potential impeachment proceedings before he is even sworn, is going to be president of the usa - yep folks that is how far Trump diminishes the position and his country in my eyes. It says everything about the man that Nigel Farage is one of his 'besties' and has an invite to see the USA's own Orangeman elected to the White House. In the meantime Trump is making sure all his family benefits from USA taxpayer handouts, no matter whether they are competent as presidential executive office bearers or not. All this hypocrisy from the Orangeman who has sworn to cut back health and welfare benefits for the poorest in the USA because they should not be allowed to 'welch' off the over burdened USA taxpayer.

Meanwhile the Orangeman's bestie from UK la-la land, Mr Farage, has apparently applied for German Citizenship, probably because he does not want to wait in the 'non EU national' queue at EU Airports after the Brexit he has connived, along with his right wing Tory pals Gove, Davidson and Johnson, to create.

The Dug's mob are whining about the SNP (Bad) latest wheeze to help new Mums with baby boxes,  apparently they are aghast at the lack of advice for breast feeding Mums. Now I was taught that whether a Mum could breast feed or not was down to certain key hormones triggering milk release. After that point it was reckoned that a few hundred thousand years of successful human breeding would cut in as Mum and baby got on with the job. Baby and Mum would work out how best to do the job; with out the need of the proposed flow diagrams, written in crayon, by the Dug herself. Mums that could not breast feed or did not wish to breast feed were shown how to mix milk substitutes. Their other whine is about NHS Scotland's:

  (a) failure to kick old folk out of hospital before they died
and
  (b) the appalling decline in the numbers of planned operations through a surfeit of cancellations.

Now clearly Anas Sawar has little or no clue about the issues he raised over NHS Scotland's drastic failings nor was he willing to put them in comparison to the near collapsed NHS in England which the Red Cross are now warning is in a catastrophic state and a will become a humanitarian disaster area if the Tory Government do not pull their socks up.

Back to Mr Sawar's complaints, much trumpeted and mindlessly regurgitated in the usual organs of the Yoon State media. Bed blocking always happens at this time of year because winter is when most old vulnerable people get sick and require hospitalisation. NHS Scotland can not simply throw the old folk out of their hospital bed when they deem them 'all better' as most will have other long term health problems which require support in the home and until such support services are in place, the patient can not be released because NHS Scotland has a legal duty of care for its patients. Provision of home support is usually in the hands of the local council social services so if funds / personnel are not available the patient is held in hospital until they are. The SNP have introduced plans to streamline this system to make it patient, rather than council, centred and speed up returning patients to their own home. The only folk who objected to this change in funding, direction and emphasis were Mr Sawar's best pals, the Labour councilor cabal at COSLA and the Labour splittist councils who are to 'big' for COSLA.

As for item (b) the actual increase was 0.4% on the previous year which still meant that 97.9% of NHS Scotland planned operations were carried out at the planned time with no inconvenience to patients.

Ruth the Mooth is still banging on about some SNP (Bad) referendum or other she claims is going to be held this year. By the way, did you know that according to the Mooth it is all the SNP's fault Brexit is happening because they are splittists seeking to divide the Yoon K, this is why the Yoon K is now splitting from the EU, she was always for Brexit especially now the SNP(Bad) are not and London has told her to say this is the case, as she's been telt by Ms May this is what she now thinks, so nya, nya, nah! (and you disregard her heart felt and undying support for the late EU Remain campaign). This about sums up the Scottish Yoon and Conservative Party's position - mealy mouthed hypocrisy.

Lib-who?

My only bit of crystal ball reading is to foresee the Yoon's new Better Together campaign, here goes:

Ms May and Bollocks Johnson are going to make a big thing about the ISIS fighter on every UK corner just waiting to blow you to bits. The 'Scotch' versions of the Express and Daily Mail will shout loudly how silly Scotland could never stop this happening and if there was a rash of suicide bombings on Sauchiehall Street how would Scotland survive. The editorial will ask: How do you know that nice Mr Sadiq who runs the local post office and newsagents is not an ISIS sleeper agent just waiting to forcibly convert you to Islam or blow himself up in the attempt?

Let us ignore the fact the only known attempted suicide bombing at Glasgow Airport was an utter failure which ended with the would be 'terrorists' being terrorised by the locals and return to a few facts about our local, potential ISIS recruit, Mr Sadiq.

For example, my Mr Sadiq is a third generation Scottish Asian who thinks of himself as a Scot, first and fore most, he runs four post office and newsagents across the south west of Edinburgh, his Dad is a long serving, local councilor while our Mr Sadiq is currently president of the local Rotary Club, his kids are at one of Edinburgh's big private day schools and he is weel kenned in the community for his good works, especially with the old folk. Clearly this man is a potential ISIS recruit and we have much to fear from him as he prays at the Edinburgh Mosque which instantly makes him suspect or this is what May's media clowns would wish to have us believe. It is very unlikely this Mr Sadiq or any other Scottish Mr Sadiq will be appearing on your doorstep anytime soon, threatening to blow themselves up if you do not settle your outstanding newspaper bill and convert to Islam.

The truth is ISIS were and, probably, are still funded and supplied by Saudi Arabia and the CIA. They were initially trained by UK and Israeli Special Forces and their purpose was to ensure Saudi Arabian control of the region by destabilising Iraq, Lebanon and Syria and establishing proxy governments in those countries 'loyal' to Saudi Arabia and its brand of Islam. The problem is that neither Iran nor Russia wished to see or allow Saudi hegemony in the area and the supposed quick removal of the Syrian regime by ISIS has got bogged down, messy and forced a weakened and fractured Turkey to get involved, as untold numbers of refugees crossed her borders. The reality is an under funded and under pressure MI6 will not prevent 'leakers' if ISIS looked to bite the hand which feeds it, via Saudi Arabian / UK / CIA arms supplies. In fact an independent Scotland with a foreign policy of opposing state sponsored terrorism would be far less likely to become a target.

This will not stop May's Conservative supporting news feeds from trying to spin the ISIS threat as fatal for a Scotland without Westminster's arm around it for protection but like everything they have been telling us on these grounds, since 2012 and before, it has no basis in any truth, data or objective analysis. This will not stop them from playing Colonel Boggey-man from a TV, radio or newspaper near you on this and much else besides.
